Fire razes Alaafin’s Palace

An inferno sparked by electric surge is reported to have razed the palace of Oyo monarch; the Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi in Oyo town, South West Nigeria.

Although no lives were lost in the incident, it was gathered that the blaze burnt 21 rooms in the palace including one in which some artefacts were kept.
Among the razed rooms include Ile Ori, Ile Ifa where some artefacts were kept.
Rooms of the Kings wives were also touched.
Speaking on the damage done by the inferno, the media assistant to the monarch; Mr Azeez Fehintola, revealed that the palace was badly damaged, adding that the fire which started around 6a.m. could not be contained until after about three hours.
The Oyo state Governor Abiola Ajimobi has led members of the state executive council on a condolence visit to the Alaafin of Oyo on the fire disaster.
