The
Cross River State Acting Governor, Mr. Efiok Cobham, has called on
Chief Judges Nationwide, to fashion out necessary reforms that will
ensure quick and fair dispensation of justices in the Country.
The Acting Governor gave the charge in Calabar, the Cross River State Capital, while swearing in the new state Chief Judge, Justice Okoi Ikpi Itam at the main bowl of the Cross River Cultural Centre.
Administering the oath, Mr Cobham maintained that, the judiciary as an arm of government has the pivotal role to build the nation’s democracy through a process of necessary legal reforms that would enhance and fasten a fair dispensation of justice.
He thereby cautioned the new Chief Judge against condoning any action by members of the judiciary to circumvent justice, noting that the executive and legislative arms of government equally have a right to fair hearing.
His appointment, other stakeholders commented should be viewed as a call to greater service in line with the Federal Governments reform agenda.
