The Joint Task force (JTF) in Maiduguri, the
Borno state capital, has arrested a leader of the Boko Haram sect in the
north-central Nigeria.
Mohammed Zangina popularly called Mallam Abdullahi or Alhaji Musa, was arrested on Sunday, in GRA Maiduguri around 12:30 midday following a special operation conducted by the task force in the city.
A statement issued by the JTF spokesman of Borno command, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa said Mohammed Zangina was among those on the wanted lists and a bounty of N25million was placed on him by the JTF in November last year.
The statement said the insurgent was in Maiduguri to strategize several deathly attacks for Sunday, being planned on innocent civilians and security personnel.
The statement also revealed that Mohammed Zangina has coordinated most of the suicide attacks and bombings in Abuja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano and Potiskum in Yobe state.
The statement concludes that the terrorist is currently undergoing interrogation.
