The
Niger State Government has approved the sum of N150 million for the
campaign against polio and routine immunisation across the state in
2013.
The Commissioner for Health, Doctor Ibrahim Sule who disclosed this to Channels Television in Minna, the state capital, explained that the state Government is determined to make the state polio-free throughout the year.
He, however, mentioned that the programme will be in conjunction with the 25 local government areas in the state, which will contribute 70% of the amount while the state government will contribute the remaining 30%.
Dr. Sule noted that the approval of the money early in the year by the state government is an indication that no stone would be left unturned in its fight against the killer disease.
He also mentioned that the committee that will be set up to oversee the programme will ensure transparency and accountability in the management of the funds.
