Osun LGAs Flag Off N16.62b Road Project

The Osun state government has flagged off the construction of 218 kilometre road project at the cost of N16.62 billion. 
The roads ranging from 5.5km – 8.5km are to be constructed in each of the 30 local governments including the Ife Area office.
The idea of the  project is basically to assist the local governments and the Ife Area office in the state in achieving substantial road projects.
Speaking to Channels Television in Osogbo ,Special Adviser on works and Transportation; Engineer  Sabitu Amuda said it is  entirely  a local government financed project but monitored and coordinated by the state government for efficient delivery and that the roads to be constructed varies between 5.5km -8.5km in each local government as he assured that the roads are designed for longevity.
The funds earmarked for the project were savings of funds accruable to local governments from the Excess Crude Oil Fund (ECOFUND).
The state government with the backing of the state House of Assembly helped to source for N10 billion loan from a bank at a generous rate and condition to make a total of N16 billion required to complete the road project.
To ensure that the roads are completed between March and September 2013, government has made available an advance payment of 30 percent  to each contractor handling the project in all the 30 local governments including the Ife Area office.
