Don’t Forget Present Heroes As You Honour Past Ones, Governor Tells Nigerians

The Yobe state Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam has said that as Nigerians recognize the good works of the fallen heroes, same recognition must be accorded the current serving members of the armed forces for their efforts towards maintaining the unity of the country.

Speaking at the ceremony making the 2013 emblem week in Damaturu the state capital, Governor Gaidam said the members of the Joint Task Force (JTF) have over the years worked assiduously towards curbing the menace of the Boko Haram insurgents and such efforts must be appreciated by all.
The governor while noting the efforts of the military in the various peace keeping operations and the strive towards maintaining oneness of the country calls on philanthropists and Non-Governmental Organizations to assists towards the success of the 2013 armed forces remembrance day celebration by donating generously towards the course of the legionnaires.
Governor Gaidam then donated the sum of N5 million and a personal donation of N500, 000.00 and directed the state commissioner of finance to ensure that the government’s donation reaches the legions latest on Friday.
He also directed the state commissioner of housing to allocate five houses to the legions that will allocate the houses to its members for residential purpose and also directed them to submit estimate for an office accommodation for government’s consideration.
The governor also pledged to sponsor some members of the legionaries to the 2013 Hajj exercise and urges the legions to liaise with the secretary to the state government and the secretary of the pilgrims’ commission to ensure its implementation.
The chairman of the Nigeria Legion of Captain Zakeri Garba praised the developmental projects of the Governor Gaidam’s administration that have touched all spheres of lives stressing that the Nigerian Legion has never had it good as now.
He pledged the Legionnaires’ unflinching support to Governor Gaidam’s administration in the actualization of more dividends of democracy for the people of the state.
The chairman assures that all donations will be judiciously used for the progress of members and the union.
