Gunmen
suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect on Monday attacked two
secondary schools and a primary school at about 9.10 a.m., killing a
teacher and injuring three female students in Maiduguri, the Borno State
capital.
The schools that were attacked by the gunmen are Shehu Sanda Kyarimi, Ali Askiri Primary and Mafoni Day Secondary School at Ruwan Zafi and Mafoni wards of Maiduguri the Borno State capital.
An eyewitness said six gunmen in two tricycles forced their way into the Shehu Kyarimi secondary school premises and started firing sporadically, killing one of the teachers and injuring three female students in the process as the gunmen flee towards the fence, the Joint Task Force (JTF) and the police rushed to the scene 15minutes later, whisking the injured students to the hospital for treatment.
As the JTF cordon the area to prevent further attacks and killings, another set of gunmen attacked Ali Askiri primary school, before moving to Mafoni Day Secondary School.
Speaking on the multiple attacks, spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Lt. Col Sagir Musa in a statement said one teacher Mallam Kachalla at Sanda Karami secondary school was shot dead within the school premises while three female students were critically injured as a result of bullet wounds and were immediately rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) by the JTF patrol team that rushed to the scene of the incident.
The statement also said the attack on the Mafoni Secondary School and Galadima areas of Maiduguri by the radical sect was averted by the intervention of the JTF troops.
The intervention according to the statement led to the death of three Terrorists and the recovery of two AK 47 Rifles, 200 rounds of ammunition, 2 video recorders, 1 laptop and 2 tricycles.
The statement added that efforts are being intensified to apprehend the other culprits.
Monday’s attack is coming 10 days after the President Goodluck Jonathan paid a two day visit to Borno and Yobe state towards finding lasting peace to the Boko Haram incessant attack within the two states.
