A bill to prevent criminal and civil court
cases being instituted against members of the legislature in respect of
the words spoken or written by them during their plenary sessions or at
committee proceedings has passed second reading.
Consolidated from two separate bills on the same subject matter, the bill enjoyed unanimous support on the floor of the House, as it was passed without much debate on Thursday.
For supporters of this bill, it is one that is long overdue but the other bill that was considered for the day did not enjoy such express passage.
The bill seeking to establish the Nigerian National Commission to check the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the country was referred to the committees on Public Safety, National Security and Justice for further legislative work.
