A bill for an act to amend the Border Communities Development Agency has scaled the crucial second reading in the senate.
The bill which was sponsored by Femi Lanlehin seeks better funding for the national border development agency to enable it improve the welfare of Nigerians living in border communities.
Senator Lanlehin, who said some communities in 21 of the 36 states in Nigeria share borders with foreign countries, lamented the neglect of the border communities by the government.
He said the situation has forced Nigerians living in such communities to often cross borders and seek succour in neighbouring countries.
Senate president, David Mark said the border development agency has failed woefully in its task to protect the interests of Nigerians in border communities.
