FG Constitutes Inter-Agency Task Force To Verify Return of Weapons By Ex-militants

The inter-agency task force has been constituted by the federal government to carry out the verification and reconciliation of disarmament encodes as well as document the residual ex-militants who actually surrendered weapons to JTF and other security agencies in all the states in the Niger Delta Region.
The inter-agency Task Force Coordinator who led the team, Air Vice Marshall James Gbum during his opening address stated that this exercise is aimed at enhancing the security of lives property in the region.
The mop up exercise of weapons and ammunition held in Warri, Delta state saw the gathering of all the armed forces fully represented the Army, the Police force, the Navy etc.
The inter agency task force arrived Delta state on the 29th January 2013 and has spent 3weeks n the state to accomplish its task.
Gbum pointed out that some of the ex-militants  in their various petitions to the federal government have claimed to have submitted arms to JTF and other security agencies but were excluded from the amnesty programme.
He promised that they would be included in the programme if qualified after the task force has carried out its task.
He also expressed disgust at the craftiness of some of these ex-militants who they discovered surrendered primitive and archaic weapons such as Dane guns, cutlasses and catapults. He stated that these group of persons do not qualify for the programme.
Speaking on behalf of the state governor,the special adviser to the governor on security, thanked  the team for the effort put in so far and for a job well done.
The total number of weapons recovered from the  security agencies is 14,586 which include Ak 47, FN riffle, Mk4(locally made) G3 machine gun,G3 air rifle, SMG, PIstol, Pump Action Machine Guns, RPG, GPMG, BMG, Double barreled gun, single barrelled gun, Mack3, Short gun, Dane guns, Bazooka gun, Smoke gun.
These weapons would be returned to 82 division of the Nigerian Army.
