1,944 Police Rank And File Officers Promoted

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, CFR, NPM, mni, in the pursuit of his agenda for a better welfare regime for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, graciously approved the promotion of One Thousand, Nine Hundred and Forty-four (1,944) junior Police Officers within the rank bracket of Constable and Sergeant, to their next ranks.
The promotion exercise dubbed “New Year Gift” for members of the Police rank and file, takes effect from 1st January, 2013. In line with on-going reforms of the Nigeria Police Force, all the beneficiaries of the promotion exercise had earlier attended and passed a special promotion course organized for them at the four premier Police Colleges located at Lagos, Orji-River, Kaduna and Maiduguri.
The trainings were designed to prepare the personnel for the challenges and responsibilities of their new ranks.
While congratulating the newly promoted Inspectors, rank and file, the IGP charged them to see their elevation as a call to greater tasks and challenges, as they will be saddled with higher responsibilities. He reminded them of the need to be more dutiful, disciplined, courageous and patriotic in the discharge of the responsibilities of their new ranks.
The 1,944 beneficiaries of the new promotion are spread across all Police Commands and Formations within the country including Force Headquarters, Abuja.
1,437 Constables were promoted to the rank of Corporal while 303 Corporals were promoted to Sergeants and 204 Sergeants were made Inspectors.
Meanwhile, the IGP has reiterated his commitment to the welfare and well being of officers and men of the Force, particularly, those within the Inspectorate, rank and file cadre whom he described as the “foot soldiers” of the Force.
He promised to continue to do his best in conjunction with other relevant organization of government to promote their overall working conditions, particularly, as we commence the sojourn into 2013.
