The Plateau state Police Command has summoned
elders of Riyom local government area in the state over some killings
within the area which has claimed about five lives in the last one week.
The Commissioner of Police, Chris Olakpe, while commenting on the peaceful Christmas celebration in the state, noted that some attacks occurred in some villages during the celebrations.
He confirmed that one person was reported killed in Shonong village.
The Police boss in order to forestall the escalation of such killing, revealed that he quickly summoned elders from the community with a warning to them that they must ensure that such acts of lawlessness is taken care off.
Three villages of Bachit, Shonong and Rim, all in Riyom local government area of Plateau state, also witnessed some security challenges during the Christmas celebrations as unknown gun men ambushed villagers and shot them in the process in which about five people were reported dead by the villagers.
The police command has also invited the Fulani Ardos and Berom elders in the community with the aim of finding lasting solution to the incessant attack in the area.
Reflecting on the peaceful Christmas celebrations in the state, the police commissioner commend the efforts of security operatives for their vigilance and cooperation during the period as it look forward to another peaceful New Year celebrations.
