The Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed
Abubakar has announced plans to embark on restructuring of the Mobile
Police Unit of the nation’s police force.
Mr Abubakar who announced the plan at a meeting with commanders of Mobile Police Squadrons across the country said the mobile police unit is a critical arm of the Nigeria Police therefore the exercise has become imperative to return the unit to its place of pride in the fight against crime and criminality.
He observed that the police have recorded successes in some parts of the country but tackling insurgency in some parts of the country remain a challenge hence the need to prepare the squads to improve their response to the various crisis ridden areas in the country.
The police boss also denied that the police have not done enough to stem the tide of rising kidnap cases in the country.
The police urged Nigerians to continue to be security conscious and promised to continue to ensure the security of lives and properties, especially during the festive seasons.
