Cynthia’s Murder: Magistrate Adjourns Hearing To February 2013

The Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ebute Metta, Yaba in Lagos state has adjourned  the hearing in the case filed by the police against the suspects in the case of the late Cynthia Osokogu till the 1st February, 2013,

Magistrate Olalekan Aka-Bashorun adjourned after a counsel from the state’s Ministry of Justice told the court that information is currently being filed at the Lagos High Court for trial to commence against the suspects in the murder case.
Late Cynthia Osokogu, a post graduate student of Nassarawa State University was allegedly killed after she was drugged and raped at a FESTAC hotel in Lagos on the 22nd of July, 2012.
Seven men were initially implicated in the murder of the 25year old.
After obtaining the advice of the DPP, three of the men were freed with four cleared for trial at the Lagos high court.
Police prosecutor, Chukwu Agwu, has however filed a fresh two count charge against the second pharmacist, who was released based on a DPP advice which the police challenged.
The pharmacist, Orji Osita who is the third defendant was on Monday arraigned on a two count charge of conspiracy to sell the obnoxious drug which was administered on the late Cynthia Osokogu.
He pleaded not guilty and despite the opposition from the police prosecutor, he was admitted to bail especially as the counsel from the State Ministry of Justice did not oppose the application.
The magistrate court has however adjourned till the first of February 2013 by which, the hearing date of the case against the suspects at the Lagos high court is expected to have been issued.
