The
Osun state government has concluded plans to relocate plank sellers to a
new 18 hectares central plank market along Iwo-Osogbo road in the
state.
While on an inspection tour of the land, the Commissioner for Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Architect Muyiwa Ige stated that as part of the state’s effort to ensure proper physical urban planning of the Osogbo metropolis, the plank sellers would have to move from the old plank market located along one of the busy districts known as Alekuwodo.
He revealed that the plank sellers are usually affected by flood disasters during the rainy season hence the need for the relocation.
“To address the issue, the government of the state of Osun cleared up 18 hectares of land along the Iwo -Osogbo road as a central market for the plank sellers in Osogbo.” He said.
He also added that the new market has the capacity to accommodate 1,500 stalls which are expected to be built by each of the occupants.
The central plank market is said to have the advantage of many infrastructure provided by the state government. These includes stable electricity, health facility, road networks among other facilities.
