The Vice Chancellor of the University of
Abuja, Professor James Adelabu has decried the increasing murder off
innocent students in various tertiary institutions saying this will
further worsen the nation’s standard of education.
Addressing a news conference in Abuja as part of activities to mark the preparedness of the university to host the accreditation panel of the national universities commission.
Professor Adelabu says the constant bickering among members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the management of most universities is also impacting negatively on the standard of tertiary education in Nigeria.
Professor Adelabu called for a constructive engagement of all stakeholders in the education sector in order to guarantee the safety of students and also to arrest the dwindling fortunes of higher education in Nigeria.
The conference hall at the main campus of the University of Abuja was sparsely filled as the Vice Chancellor flanked by other management staff addressed the press on the suspension of four programmes run by the university.
Professor Adelabu assured parents and students alike that there is no cause for alarm.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics mentioned that fulfilling the requirements of the National Universities Commission, which is no longer an uphill task as measures have been put in place to ensure that affected faculties are accredited.
