The director-general of State Security
Services (SSS), Mr Ita Ekpeyong is reported to have issued an invitation
to the Senator, who officials of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in
Maiduguri arrested a Boko Haram member in his house.
A statement signed by the JTF spokesperson, Sagir Musa, revealed that the wanted leader of the fundamentalist sect; Shuaibu Mohammed Bama, who has been on the wanted list of terrorists, was arrested on Thursday in the home of the lawmaker.
The statement however, did not name the lawmaker. The JTF had arrested Bama in the building along Damboa Road in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital,
The Senator, who is now identified as Senator Ahmed Zanna, representing Borno Central Senatorial district, has denied the allegation that the Boko Haram member was arrested in his house.
Senator Zanna in his response has claimed that he’s been framed by the JTF.
He argued that Bama was arrested in the house of the immediate past governor of Borno State, Alhaji Ali Sheriff Musa.
The arrest of the sect leader is a major security breakthrough for the JTF, giving credence to recent claims by President Goodluck Jonathan that the sect has links with some government officials.
Early this year, President Jonathan disclosed that Boko Haram had infiltrated all levels of government, although he did not give details of those involved.
