Former Chairman of Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs Farida Waziri has appealed to rich
Nigerians to come to the aid of those displaced by flood across the
country.
The former boss of the anti-graft agency, who is now the founder and chairperson of Women, Youth, Children and Crime, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), stressed the need for Nigerians and other individuals to ameliorate the suffering of flood victims who are living in relief camps across the country.
She also advised the internally displaced persons not to see their current travails as the end of life saying the Federal Government is concerned about their plights and efforts are being made to resettle them.
Mrs Waziri on a visit to some of the communities sacked by flooding in Benue state visited three relief camps in the state capital, where she appealed for more assistance to the displaced persons.
The national coordinator of Helping Hands, a non-governmental organisation, Beverly Nelson, also assured the displaced people of regular assistance, while the executive secretary of Benue State Emergency Management Agency, Adikpo Agbatse, debunked allegations of rape in the relief camps.
Some of the displaced persons expressed appreciation for the presence of medical personnel on the entourage.
The NGO later presented relief materials to the deputy governor, Mr Steven Lawani who received the items on behalf of the state government with a promise of equitable distribution.
