President Goodluck Jonathan will today present the 2013 budget to a joint session of the National Assembly.
Senate President Senator David Mark, at plenary yesterday, read a letter from President Jonathan stating that he would be presenting the 2013 Appropriation Bill before a joint session of the legislative arm of government.
The president was billed to present the 2013 budget proposal to the National Assembly last week but the house deferred the presentation until committees returned from their oversight of ministries.
It became compulsory to postpone the event owing to the fact that the Lower Chamber which should be part of the process, adjourned plenary for one week to enable the members to carry out oversight functions on the Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs.
According to a memo pasted on the board of the office of the Senate President and signed by Mrs. F.O Adigun, yesterday, staff members were asked to report early because of the tight security in the National Assembly complex.
The memo read: ‘’I write to inform you that the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR will be visiting the national Assembly tomorrow(today) Wednesday, October 10, at 10am to address a joint session of the National Assembly on the 2013 budget.
‘’In the light of the above, you are hereby advised to come to work early as there will be tight security in the complex.”
The senators, however, resolved to hold plenary session by 9 AM on Wednesday to enable them quickly deliberate on some issues before the budget presentation.
