Jonathan approves N17.6 billion for flood management

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday promised to allocate the sum of N17.6 billion to mitigate the pains and sufferings of states that have been ravaged by floods.
President Jonathan was speaking during a nationwide broadcast in the Presidential Villa.
The flooding caused by heavy rainfall has ravaged many states across the country, with the Red Cross saying last week that at least 148 people have been killed and 64,000 displaced.
Jonathan said “Unprecedented floods have ravaged many parts of our country rendering tens of thousands of Nigerians homeless and causing massive destruction of property farmland and infrastructure,”.
He said he planned to personally visit some of the flooded areas in company of the vice president, Nnamadi Sambo while the Technical Committee on Flood Impact Assessment will continue to visit other affected areas.
