Dozens protest killing of printer by a policeman

The city of Kaduna was yesterday thrown into turmoil following a protest by some residents over the alleged killing of a commercial printer, Elisha Joseph Ayokunle, by a policeman.
An eyewitness said the late Ayokunle was trying to settle a dispute between a police patrol team and some prison officials over right of way, when a policeman jumped out of one of the patrol vehicles and hit the butt of his gun on Ayokunle’s chest.
He was confirmed dead soon after being rushed to a nearby hospital.
This immediately attracted his colleagues, commercial motorcyclists and other motorists who began to protest the killing.
The angry protesters moved to the Magajingari Police Station and demanded for the alleged culpable officer. Not getting any positive response from the DPO, the protesters blocked the Lagos Street roundabout by Ahmadu Bello way.
The incident heightened tension in the city as the protesters vowed not to retreat until justice was done.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Adenaike who confirmed the incident denied police involvement in the death of Ayokunle.
