The
planned local Government Council election scheduled for January 2013
across the 17 local government areas of Abia State may not be feasible
again following the resolution unanimously passed in a plenary session
by the State House of Assembly.
This is to enable the State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) to properly inform the electorate as well as have enough time to prepare for the polls election the fact that Abia state citizens are expecting a free, fair and credible election.
According to the member representing Isikwuato Constituency, Hon. Chukwudi John Kennedy Ogele, the house is urging Governor Theodore Orji to suspend the proposed January election on the ground that it is ill timed as ABSIEC is not ready with the time-table and is yet to finalise the delineation of the electoral wards across the state which it started since 2007 till date.
He hinted that the House in an executive session, called on ABSIEC to make available the analysis of the viability of wards they want to create and come up with authentic guidelines on how to conduct the local council poll.
