Plateau crisis: Jonathan meets with Hausa-Fulani elders

In continuation of efforts by the federal government to make peace return to Plateau State, President Goodluck Jonathan last night met with another set of elders from the state.

The Hausa-Fulani leaders were received by the president to hear their own side of the story after Berom elders did same two days ago.
The meeting lasted till about 1am, after which the leaders of the group Alhaji Dasuki Nakande and Alhaji Sale Bayare spoke to State House correspondents.
Leader of the Hausa community, Alhaji Nakande, described the meeting as fruitful as the groups have been told to respect one another so that at the end all the conflicts in the area will be resolved.
While leader of the Fulani group, Sale Bayare, appealed to the president to intervene in the conflict between cattle rearers and farmers over the grazing areas.
They also said that most of the commissions’ reports on the crisis have lost relevance but they are confident that the commission set by the federal government will go a long way in solving the crisis.
