Three soldiers and cashier killed as robbers snatch LG salary in Yobe

Unknown gun men on Wednesday, ambushed security officers escorting large sums of money belonging to Gulani Local Government Area (LGA) of Yobe state, killing three soldiers and the council’s cashier.
The Chairman of the Council Alhaji Ahmed Musa Gulani and the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Patrick Egbuniwe confirmed the incident to Channels Television in Damaturu, the state capital.
Mr Egbuniwe said apart from the four people killed, two police men and a soldier sustained various gunshot injuries from the attack.
The Chairman of the local government stated that the money snatched by the robbers was meant for staff salaries, overhead cost as well as money to settle some contractors of the council.
According to Alhaji Gulani, the incident occurred around 5:40PM in the evening.
This is the fourth time robbers have snatched salaries of local government officials in the state within the last four months as authorities fail to take salaries to the banks and avoid moving with large sums in a state ravaged with severe security challenges.
Similar robbery had occurred in Fune, Potiskum and Gujba LGA.
