'Grandmother and grandson' killed and man left fighting for his life following crash between two lorries and a car

A woman and a teenage boy, believed to be grandmother and grandson, were killed after the car they were travelling in was hit by two lorries.
The woman, in her 50s, who was at the wheel of the Fiat Punto car, was killed instantly in the collision on the A14 at Trimley St Mary on the outskirts of Felixstowe.
The boy was airlifted to the specialist trauma centre at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge following the crash yesterday afternoon but died in the early hours of the morning.

A second passenger, a man in his 60s who is believed to be the woman's husband, was taken to Ipswich Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

 

A 50-year-old man from Dovercourt in Essex has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the crash, Suffolk Police said.
He is being questioned at Martlesham police investigation centre.
The two 38-ton articulated lorries were bound for the Port of Felixstowe.
Police said the three victims are not thought to be from the local area and were involved in a crash on the eastbound carriageway close to a slip road.
The East of England Ambulance Service said three rapid response cars, a senior officer, two ambulances and the East Anglian Air Ambulance attended the scene.

'Sadly, on our arrival the woman was pronounced dead at the scene,' an ambulance service spokesman said.
'A man received serious injuries and has been taken to Ipswich Hospital for further care.'
