The
Federal Government has reacted to a report credited to a purported
spokesman of Boko Haram that government is engaged in direct talks with
the group on how to end the violence in the northern part of the
country.
Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku told State House Correspondents that the government is following the announcement monitored in some foreign media by the supposed members of the group.
He restated that government’s position on the matter remains the same.
Maku said that the federal government believes that members of the Boko Haram sect are Nigerians and that it is unfortunate that violence in the country has brought economic activities on its knees in the north
Maku said “that government has always said that is open to dialogue anytime”.
He however said he does not have details if the dialogue has commenced.
