When we send our children off to school, we expect they'll be taught to the highest level by knowledgeable teachers.
But as these hilarious pictures show, even schools and colleges can fall victim to horrendous spelling mistakes.
This group of photographs shows a collection of spelling mishaps and inappropriate puns from across the U.S.
Embarrassing: This group of photographs shows
that many schools and news organisations need to brush up on their
spelling. Perhaps this school ought to have asked its Spelling Bee
winners to write this sign
Shocking: It's to be hoped the pupils at this school receive a better education than the person who wrote this sign
Wrong: This sign at Colton High School suggests it may not be as committed to high standards as it likes to think
Hilarious: Although this sign for Georgia State
Television does not contain any spelling mistakes, the phrase 'Students
Turn Us On' may possibly need some altering
Error: Maybe the person who wrote this advert should use one of the learning software programs which they are trying to sell
Poor impression: Parents thinking of sending
their child to Portage Community Education Center may look at other
options after seeing this sign
One of the most unfortunate mishaps is on a bright neon sign at Centennial Elementary School which is celebrating the winners of a spelling competition.
It reads: 'Congradulation Spelling Bee Winners'.
In an embarrassing gaffe for news organisation WNDU, a caption to one of its stories says: 'School two easy for kids'.
Poor: It is not only schools which make embarrassing gaffes, as this news caption for WNDU shows
Mistake: The person who wrote this caption for a news channel perhaps needs to consider a return to school
Dreadful: These young students no doubt saw the funny side of this horrendous error
Bad: Perhaps the person who wrote this sign also needs to open up a few books
Lazy: The mind of the signwriter who wrote this clearly needs a bit of its own exercise
Humorous: Of all the letters to miss out of this sign, the 'L' in 'public' was perhaps the worst
While a sign saying 'Commited to High Standards' at Colton High School suggests otherwise.
But as well as misspellings, there are also phrases used which perhaps need a bit more consideration.
Terrible: It is to be hoped the person who wrote this sign did this as a joke
Need to start again: This entire sign is one complete disaster
Funny: Whoever wrote this sign may now wish they had spelled out 'students' in full
Daft: Even with the correct spelling staring them in the face, somebody managed to get the name of this school completely wrong
Changes needed: The State of Connecticut probably needs to re-think how this sign is worded
Not good: It is hardly a difficult word to spell, but somebody managed to get 'nation' completely wrong
A very unfortunate sign for Woombye State School says : 'Welcome to all STDS & Parents for 2011'.
Creative Kids Software will hope its products are more informed than the person who came up with the phrase for one of its adverts, which said: 'So Fun, They Won't Even Know Their Learning'.
Parents would be forgiven for getting a little bit concerned over this school's phrase
Foolish: Most children need new pens and books when going back to school, not knives
Misdirected: New lingerie is not really a key piece of clothing for a student returning to college
Lost: It's difficult to work out what this school was trying to do with this sign
Wrong market: Bottles of wine are not generally thought of as essential 'going back to school' products
Wrong place: It will be difficult to keep this area drugs free with a pharmacy nearby
