Edo election: Police recover bodies of drowned Inspectors

The Police force in Edo State on Monday recovered the corpses of Inspector Johnson Aghedo and Constable Odudukudu Greg, who drowned while conveying voting materials to riverine areas of Edo State during Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The two policemen and an INEC official died when the boat they were travelling in capsized on Ologbo River, in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Operations, Force headquarters Abuja, Marvel Akpoyibo said this when he paid a condolence visit to the families of the late policemen.
Mr Akpoyibo said “they paid the ultimate sacrifice as part of their contributions to the success of Saturday’s election. The force will stand by them (family) during and after the burial.”
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Kassim Gaidam, said the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission regrets the death of the police officers and the ad-hoc official.
“We felt very bad, we share your grief. We are here to let you know that your husband died while on active duty. He also contributed to the success we recorded in the election. He died a hero and we will stand by you, during and after the burial.”
