The Residents of the Makoko/Iwaya waterfront in Yaba
Local Council Development Areas (LCDA), on Monday stormed the office of
the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola to protest the demolition of
their shanties.
The protesters, who were conveyed to the secretariat by commercial buses, brandished placards, with inscriptions such as: ‘Shelter is our right’, ‘Lagos State Government, respect our privacy and right’, ‘Leave Makoko residents alone’, ‘respect us as citizens of Lagos’, and ‘We are not foreigners’, among others.
