An
amateur 40-team football tournament, which will see the winning team
represent Nigeria in a tournament at Anfield, the home of English giants
Liverpool, is set to begin, organisers of the event, Standard Chartered
Bank, have announced.
Standard Chartered Bank is the major
sponsor of Liverpool, having signed a deal with the Reds that was
extended to the 2015/16 season.
Named the Road to Anfield tournament,
the Standard Chartered Trophy is a five-a-side tournament for clients of
the bank across the country scheduled for March 15 and 16.
The winners will participate in the
grand finale of the tournament in Anfield with 13 other teams from
across the world on May 13.
The winning team will also attend an
English Premier League match at Anfield. They will equally benefit from a
professional training session with Liverpool legends and coaches.
Managing Director, Standard Chartered
Bank, Bola Adesola, said, “As part of the sponsorship deal between
Standard Chartered and Liverpool FC, the bank is entitled to leverage on
the sponsorship not only to promote its brand but also give back to the
community and reward the institution’s partners and clients.”
