Egyptian prosecutors promised on Wednesday to
not detain any members of a group that goes by the name "Black Bloc"
unless it is certain that they have committed an offense, reported
Al-Ahram.
Egypt's Attorney General Talaat Ibrahim ordered last week the police and army to arrest anyone who is suspected to belong to the group and hand them over to the authorities.
Ibrahim had released a statement claiming that "Black Bloc is an organized group that practices terrorist activities," accusing its members of vandalism and attacks that threaten national security.
The group first appeared at demonstrations that were held to mark the second anniversary of the January 25 revolt that toppled Hosni Mubarak.
"Chaos against injustice" is Black Bloc's motto as shown on their official Facebook page which has garnered over 45 thousand fans over the past two weeks.
Meanwhile, some prosecutors decided to release a number of members of the Black Bloc due to the absence of clear accusations against them or evidence that they were involved in offenses.
The Judges Club and general prosecution had sent a communiqué to the high judicial council describing the attorney general's order of arrest as "void" for failing to meet legal standards.
