State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has approved the resolution passed by
the State House of Assembly dissolving the 18 Local Government
Transition Committee Chairmen.
The governor made this known when he met with the former Transition Committee Chairmen and the Head of Service of the Local Governments.
He also said the various heads of Service of the local governments are to ensure that only the salaries of teachers and local government employees are paid and warned them not to act as sole administrators.
“I have invited you to brief you about a recent development. You are aware of the resolution passed by the House of Assembly as regards the tenure of the local government transition committees. We have considered the resolution which has since been transmitted to my office and we have examined it and we are satisfied that it was done in good faith and in the best interest of our state.
“Accordingly, we have resolved to accept the dissolution of the transition committees, which means the chairmen of the transition committees, the councilors and the supervisors’ tenure have come to an end, by reason of this decision,”Comrade Oshiomhole noted.
Governor Oshiomhole said the legal issues concerning the State Independent Electoral Commission will be over in the next few months and election to the local governments will be conducted soon.
