The Ogun state government has called on
relatives of the departed buried in graves that are along roads under
construction in the state, to make immediate arrangements for the
relocation of such graves.
The relocation, according to suggestion by the state governor, is to be “in accordance with their religious beliefs.”
A number of graves have reportedly fallen within the right of way of some on-going road expansion such as Ojere-Onikolobo-Panseke – Ibara – Isale – Iigbein – Sapon – Ake – Adatan road expansion project.
The Special Adviser and Director General, Bureau of Lands in the state, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun, who made the call in a statement on Wednesday, pointed out that the government was embarking on the road expansion project as part of its urban renewal and infrastructural development programmes.
She noted that government had already notified owners of properties affected by the road expansion as required, adding that the process of compensation was already in progress in order to avoid delay in payment.
Mrs. Sokefun further explained that when completed, the road is expected to be upgraded to six lanes and it will be provided with modern amenities including furniture and walkways.
