The Chairman of the House of Representatives
Committee on Power has queried the decision of the executive to make
zero allocation for generation and distribution companies in the 2013
budget.
Speaking with journalists in the national assembly, the chairman, Representative Patrick Ikhariale, said the zero allocation could create a gap in the provision of electricity to Nigerians in 2013.
He also expressed his worry that this could also affect the confidence of investors who won bids in the privatisation of companies of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
The lawmaker said Nigeria cannot afford a failed privatization exercise in the power sector as it occurred in other sectors in the country and encouraged the executive to take a second look at making provision for the generation and distribution companies in the 2013 budget in such a way that the privatisation exercise glide smoothly to an expected end.
