Ogun state honours Nigeria’s first Olympian

The Ogun state government has bestowed honour on the first Nigerian Olympian, Mr. Adegboyega Adedoyin, who represented Great Britain at the 1948 Olympic Games in the city of London.
Mr Adedoyin finished fifth in the men’s long jump at the London 1948 Olympic Games.
Nigeria however recorded its first medal by boxer Nojan Maiyegun who won claimed a bronze in light middleweight at the Tokyo 1964 Games.
At the ceremony to celebrate the Ogun state indigene, in Abeokuta, the state capital, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Gbenga Otenuga presented a cheque of N2 million, a medal of selflessness in sports development in the state and a sports legend award to Mr Adedoyin.
The Commissioner noted that the gesture would serve as an encouragement to the youths, and promote patriotism in the country.
