They could have been in any luxury hotel, any fast-car showroom, any exclusive resort in the world.
But yesterday, lottery winners Gillian and Adrian Bayford were exactly where they promised they’d be – spending some of their £148.6million fortune on their family.
The couple were spotted house-hunting with Mrs Bayford’s father and brother in Scotland.
The EuroMillions winners were known to have flown to a secret destination in Europe to ‘acclimatise’ after their life-changing jackpot.
But, as revealed by the Mail yesterday, rather than choosing somewhere exotic, they headed straight to the caravan park in Carnoustie, Angus where Mrs Bayford’s parents, Ian and Brenda McCulloch live.
After spending some time at the site, which was battered by heavy rain within 24 hours of their arrival, they went house-hunting.
The couple took Mr McCulloch, 68, a retired blind-fitting company owner, his son – Mrs Bayford’s brother – Colin, 38, and Colin’s partner to view a £288,000 five-bedroom villa nearby.
Its features include two en suite bathrooms, a Juliet balcony, a conservatory and a large secluded garden.
They emerged smiling and laughing before heading to the Carnoustie Golf Hotel where Mrs McCulloch was waiting.
An animated Mr McCulloch was later seen making several calls on his mobile phone. At the press conference on Tuesday where their identities were revealed, 40-year-old Mrs Bayford said: ‘If you are selfish and keep it to yourself, it is far too much.
‘But if you’re willing to share it and give it to people and let them have the quality of life you’ve having as well, it’s more enjoyable.’
And the couple – whose aspirations so far amount to a slightly bigger house, an Audi Q7 and a trip to the Rockies – appeared to be revelling in the chance to share their good fortune yesterday.
They swapped the champagne they had on Tuesday for pints, which they enjoyed on the balcony of the four-star hotel.

At one stage Mr Bayford, 41, who owns a second-hand record and instruments shop in Haverhill, Suffolk, could be seen carrying his son Cameron, four, on his shoulders, while his six-year-old daughter Aimee raced around on a scooter.
When a well-wisher asked her about the family’s win in the bar, Mrs McCulloch, who is recovering from a broken leg, said: ‘I still can’t believe it’s happened. The last few days have been crazy.’
