The fear of demolition is back in Abuja. The Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed has announced that plans have been intensified to demolish over 10,000 illegal structures in Mpape, a densely populated area in the nation’s capital.
The Minister, who gave the announcement during the monthly FCT operations briefing session in Abuja, described the court’s approval on the impending demolitions in Mpape as gratifying.
He appealed to residents to co-operate with the government as the planned demolitions are in the interest of the people, adding that the sustained health as well as security of the collective populace are of paramount concern.
Senator Mohammed noted that the FCT Administration will strive to uphold the rule of law in consonance with the transformation agenda of the federal government.
He emphasized that the proposed demolitions are not intended to inflict hardship on the residents but aimed at guaranteeing the sustained health and security.
The Minister further revealed that apart from the over 500 shanties destroyed in Gwagwalada Area Council, the FCT Administration has in the last one month destroyed over 300 hundred illegal structures around the nation’s capital.
