Improvise Explosives Devises (IEDs) believed
to have been planted by the road side by suspected members of the Boko
Haram insurgents went off at Gwange area in the Maiduguri metropolis
around 6pm, Monday evening.
Witnesses said the IED went off around the busy Gwange area which has recently become a stronghold of the insurgents but no casualty was recorded.
The area was cordoned off swept and made safe by the bomb disposal arm of the Joint Task Force (JTF).
The situation has been normalized as routine activities continue in the affected area.
Security agents are yet to confirm the incident as the JTF spokesman Sagir Musa told Channels TV that he was not aware of the blast.
Witnesses said activities of gun shots were heard around the area even after the explosion.
