A large cache of arms were uncovered by the
police after they arrested one Olisa Ifedike in connection with a
series of robberies and kidnappings in the state on Monday.The structures had served as the hideout of Ifedike and and members of his gang.
Some of the arms recovered in an underground armoury included 27 AK-47 rifles, 12,800 live ammunition, 143 loaded magazines, rocket launchers and General Purpose Machine Gun.
Others were six action guns, three dane guns, one Berretta pistol and 13 rocket grenades.
Obi said the demolition was in line with the laws of the state providing for the confiscation and demolition of any property linked to kidnapping and other criminal activities.
The governor explained that the effort were geared toward eradicating crime and flushing out hoodlums from the state.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Raphael Uzoigwe, said the police arrested Ifedike following information gathered through their intelligence network.
Uzoigwe alleged that the suspect was responsible for the recent attacks and killings of policemen and personalities in the state.
