The Kano state chapter of the Nigerian Labour
Congress (NLC) has declared its readiness to comply with the directive
of the national body to shut down public and private institutions in the
state if the federal government does not resolve its dispute with the
National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE).
During a protest in Kano city on Tuesday, the state chairman of the labour group, Comrade Isah Danguguwa demanded the immediate withdrawal of the 7.5 per cent deduction from the workers’ salaries.
The NLC has given the federal government until Thursday, August 16 to pay the workers their pension according to the in-house payment pattern of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) or risk a nationwide industrial action.
The labour union is also asking the government to withdraw military men from all PHCN installations.
Comrade Danguguwa insisted that NLC is backing the electricity union in their demands.
